Spring cleaning: would you choose the carwash or hand wash?

Are you familiar with this? Temperatures are reaching an all-time high and the sun is beaming onto your car...which is still under the dirt from last winter. Time to drive past the carwash, or not?!

A quick drive through the carwash

If you have a dirty car, the carwash seems like a good way to get it clean again. However, there are a few drawbacks to the carwash. Carwashes often use aggressive products that damage the protective layer of your paintwork. The rotating brushes and pieces of dust absorb the dirt and sand of all the previous cars and can cause tiny scratches, or swirls to your paintwork. Additionally, not all nooks and crannies of your car will be reached, which means that in some places your car will remain as dirty as before.

Give it a hand wash

If you wish to keep your paintwork scratch-free and unaffected by aggressive products, you should wash your car by hand. It is recommended to use the 2-bucket technique and a washing glove. Place your soapsuds in one bucket and use the second bucket to rinse out your washing glove. This way you make sure that sand and dirt won't get into your soapsuds. It is tempting to use a sponge and a chamois but these too can cause scratches from the dirt that gets stuck in them. The 2-bucket technique may seem like a lot of work, but with this technique you can be sure that your paintwork will not get damaged.
